We discussed a proposed gcc compiler patch by Eric Flumerfelt. The purpose of the patch is to allow building gcc with the --enable-libstdcxx-time=rt
configuration option without introducing a link-time dependence on librt and libpthread. With this option set the clock_gettime
system call is implemented using a virtual system call instead of a real system call, which is three times faster.
It was decided to make a gcc 4.9.3a package using the --enable-libstdcxx-time=rt
option without any patches and build the art suite using it with qualifier e10 since it was felt that the librt and libpthread dependence was not a serious problem.
Marc Paterno suggested that the artdaq team swap in a rebuild of gcc privately in their own products area during the transition to accommodate their needs.
